In a quite surprising move, Facebook announced that it would buy Instagram for approximately 1 billion US dollars, in a “combination of cash and shares of Facebook.” This comes less than a week after Instagram has been made available for Android, instantly proving itself to be a smash-hit, with over 1 million downloads in the first day.
