LG Canada: LG Optimus 2X P990 won’t be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

July seems to be ending in a sad note for all those who are using an LG Optimus 2X P990 as their primary phone. LG Canada has tweeted that the device — originally announced in December 2010, and released in February 2011 — would not be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  The news comes several months after LG Singapore informed users on Facebook that the Optimus 2X would get ICS in the third quarter of this year.

Hardware-wise, the Optimus 2X offers a 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM, thus being more capable than some phones which came out running Android ICS (HTC Desire C is included here). So we can’t say we understand LG’s decision to leave the handset in a sea of Gingerbread and forgetfulness. But it’s not like that changes anything.
